Create a website and Grow Your Business
Making your own website can be quite a challenge, but it's worth the effort - if you're looking to put up a site for your business, it can help you get more customers through the door. There are some things, however, that you'll need to consider when you want to create a website. Here are some things you want to think about:
1.What is your objective for having a website? Is it simply to have an online presence, so you can say, "for more information, go to our website?" Or will you be doing something more complicated, like offering feedback forms and online purchases? Write down your objectives, and then beside that list, write down the site functions you'll need to meet those objectives.
2. Don't put too much information in one page. Some people might still think of websites the way they think of space in a newspaper ad: they paid for the space, so they want to put as much information in it as possible to make their investment worthwhile. But also consider that your average user loses interest after reading only a few lines of text. A solid block of text, or long paragraphs that require the user to scroll down to read, will virtually guarantee that your information won't be read.
For that same reason, keep your layout clean when you create a website. Avoid long blocks of text, especially text that will require your user to scroll down. You want them to see only the most important information, and then if they want to know more, give them other pages they can look at for further information.
3.Readability is the key. As much as you'd like to use loud colors or huge fonts, the Internet is not a shouting competition. Being loud, visually, only annoys many users, and gives them a bad first impression when they enter your site. Keep your colors tasteful- reading on a monitor already places enough of a strain on the eyes, without your use of wild colors or big letters splashed across the page.
4. Finally, update your site as much as you can. If you work in an industry that has trends, like say, real estate, or cars, then you want to have only the most recent information there to show that your business is up-to-date. If you intend to create a website that will be updated often, you'll want to look into a dynamic site with a content management system. If your site only contains your company information and contact information, then a simpler, static website will do the job.
An effective website for your business can be a good investment for both your time and money. But to be effective, you just have to remember when you create a website: it's all about presentation. Your average user will have a short attention span, so make sure that you present your information in an orderly, concise manner. If you keep it visually interesting but don't go overboard, users will be more likely to stick around and find out more about your company.
